FOOTBALL: Flanagan helps Mojave open season with win

Ty Flanagan rushed for 292 yards and four touchdowns on just 12 attempts Saturday to help Mojave’s football team open its season with a 48-40 win over Skyview (Idaho) in the Rocky Mountain Rumble in Pocatello, Idaho.

Flanagan’s 82-yard touchdown run just 21 seconds into the fourth quarter broke a 34-34 tie.

Zack Arave added a 7-yard scoring run with 6:45 to go to help the Rattlers build a 48-34 lead. The Hawks scored with just 11 seconds left and attempted an onside kick, but Mojave recovered and ran out the clock.

Mojave racked up 508 yards of total offense, including 403 rushing yards. Arave tossed a pair of touchdown passes for the Rattlers, hitting Davion Fletcher and Marcus Parker on scoring strikes.

Shelley (Idaho) 27, Faith Lutheran 0 — At Pocatello, Idaho, the Russets scored three touchdowns on fourth-down plays in the first half and went on to down the Crusaders in the Rocky Mountain Rumble.

Shelley converted on touchdowns of 6, 11 and 9 yards, all on fourth-down plays in the first half to build a 20-0 lead and tacked on a 33-yard touchdown pass on a third-and-11 play late in the third quarter.
