Hayes, Jaguars hold off Vikings

Desert Pines’ Leon Hayes ran for a 75-yard touchdown on the Jaguars’ first play from scrimmage, and Derrick Shaw returned a fumble 51 yards for a score in the final minute to carry Desert Pines (2-3, 2-1 Northeast) to a 19-6 victory over host Valley (0-6, 0-3) on Friday night.

Hayes rushed for 168 yards on 15 carries, and Chancellor Davis rushed for a 6-yard touchdown. Shaw also had 52 yards rushing and 22 receiving.

Valley quarterback Anthony Sanders went 11-for-18 with 152 yards and a 25-yard touchdown pass to Rashad Richardson. The Vikings were hurt by three second-half turnovers in Jaguars territory.
