Wild night ends in five-way tie for second in Sunset League

Fans of football teams in the Division I-A Sunset League spent Friday night scoreboard watching.

Four teams entered play tied atop the league with two more a game behind.

When the dust settled (if it has), here’s how everything ended up.

Faith Lutheran defeated Spring Valley. That, along with Pahrump Valley’s upset of Sierra Vista and Clark’s win over Cheyenne, left the Crusaders alone atop the Sunset and the league’s top seed for the postseason.

It also left Spring Valley, Sierra Vista, Clark, Cheyenne and Mojave (a winner over Western) all tied for second in the league.

And that dusted off the rare five-team tiebreaker.

Sierra Vista went 3-1 against the other four teams in the tiebreaker to earn the No. 2 seed.

Spring Valley, Clark, Cheyenne and Mojave went back into the blender of a four-team tiebreaker. Spring Valley and Cheyenne were each 2-1 against the remaining teams, guaranteeing playoff spots.

Cheyenne’s win over Spring Valley made it the No. 3 seed and relegated the Grizzlies to the No. 4 spot.

Clark and Mojave were left on the outside. Mojave’s win over Sierra Vista looked big, until the Mountain Lions came out of the tiebreaker with the second seed, leaving the Rattlers with no benefit in the four-team tiebreaker.

For those who prefer the actual guts of everything, here you go:

Faith Lutheran 5-2

Sierra Vista 4-3 (wins over Clark, Cheyenne and Spring Valley; loss to Mojave)

Cheyenne 4-3 (wins over Mojave and Spring Valley; losses to Clark and Sierra Vista)

Spring Valley 4-3 (wins over Clark and Mojave; losses to Cheyenne and Sierra Vista)

Mojave 4-3 (wins over Clark, Sierra Vista; losses to Cheyenne and Spring Valley)

Clark 4-3 (win over Cheyenne; losses to Sierra Vista, Mojave and Spring Valley)
