3A REGIONALS: The Meadows works OT, ousts Virgin Valley’s boys

Toby Warburton scored the winning goal 7 minutes and 48 seconds into overtime Friday as The Meadows boys soccer team nipped Virgin Valley 3-2 in a Class 3A Southern League semifinal in Overton.
The Meadows (8-4-3) will meet Boulder City (10-7-1) at 2 p.m. Saturday for the Southern League title and a berth in the state semifinals next weekend.
Warburton, who scored all of the Mustangs’ goals in the match, took a pass from Corin Galati in the midfield and beat one defender before firing a shot from 30 yards out.
The shot tucked just underneath the crossbar and into the upper right corner of the net.
“It was a fitting goal to win a close match,” said The Meadows coach Garry Shackley.
Galati had two assists for the Mustangs.
William Lara scored twice for the Bulldogs (4-16-2), who erased a 2-1 halftime deficit to force the extra session.
Boulder City 4, Moapa Valley 1 — Jeremy Estes netted a pair of goals as the Eagles pulled away in the second half to down the Pirates.
Lars Bremer and Daniel Andrade also scored for Boulder City, which led 2-1 at the half.
Borja Mateos’ penalty-kick goal was the lone score for the Pirates (1-20-1).
Virgin Valley 5, Moapa Valley 1 — Andrea Hermosillo tallied two goals as the Bulldogs scored five times in the first half and cruised past the Pirates in the lone girls Class 3A Southern League semifinal.
Karson Bryant, Hailey Jones and Caroline Stenberg-Henrickson also scored for Virgin Valley (6-10-2), which will face top-seeded Boulder City (9-5) in the region final Saturday at noon. The region champion advances to next weekend’s state semifinals.
Blake Dausen scored for Moapa Valley (2-18-1).
