O’Connor, Lincoln County beat Needles

McClain O’Connor had a hand in four touchdowns on Friday to lead Lincoln County to a 43-35 road win at Needles.

O’Connor ran for two touchdowns and passed for two more as the Lynx moved into a first-place tie in the Division III Southern League.

O’Connor completed 13 of 16 passes for 283 yards for Lincoln County, which now is 7-1, 5-1 in the league. Landon Smith had 180 receiving yards for the Lynx.

Derek Wagstaff and Trenton Poe-Evans each scored two touchdowns for the Mustangs (6-1, 5-1).

Mason Thornock went 4-for-5 with a double and an RBI and tossed a five-hit shutout to help Lincoln County return to the Class 2A state championship game with a 10-0 win over Yerington in the winners’ bracket final at The Meadows.

White Pine scored 13 runs in the final four innings to roll to a 15-10 win over the Lynx in the opening round of the Class 2A state tournament at The Meadows.
