Jack Trent, the two-time defending state champion from Palo Verde shot 2-under-par 70 to tie for the lead after the first day of the Class 4A State Boys Golf Championship at Toiyabe Golf Club.
Palo Verde (28-9) will visit Sunrise Region runner-up Coronado (27-15) in a Class 4A state boys volleyball semifinal at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

Centennial squandered a two-game lead and survived three match points in the fifth set to defeat Arbor View 25-18, 25-23, 18-25, 24-26 and 19-17 in a Class 4A Sunset Region boys volleyball semifinal at Legacy.
Nick Hernandez struck out Centennial’s No. 3 hitter Kyle Horton with the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth, and Bishop Gorman’s baseball team held on for a 7-5 road victory over the Bulldogs to move into the championship game of the Sunset Region baseball tournament.
Host Palo Verde hit two more homers Thursday, adding to its Class 4A state record, and topped Sierra Vista 10-3 in the winners’ bracket final of the Sunset Region tournament.
Zack Simon threw a complete game, and Tanner Wright drove in five runs as Centennial’s baseball team knocked off visiting Desert Oasis 11-2 in a winners’ bracket semifinal of the Sunset Region baseball tournament.
Kalei Watkins smashed a grand slam in the fourth inning, and host Sierra Vista claimed a 6-1 win over Shadow Ridge in a winners’ bracket semifinal of the Class 4A Sunset Region softball tournament.
