SOFTBALL: Sotelo’s homer helps Legacy to third win in Crusader Invitational

Alyssa Sotelo belted a two-run home run in the third inning to lift Legacy’s softball team to a 7-2 win over host Faith Lutheran in the Crusader Invitational on Saturday.

Lindsey Fishman went 1-for-3 with a run and two RBIs, and Eliza Ledesma-Esparza was 1-for-3 with a triple and an RBI for the Longhorns, who went 3-0 on the opening day of the tournament.

Ryleigh Gilchrist was 1-for-2 with a double, a run and an RBI for the Crusaders.

Legacy 13, Western 3 — At Faith Lutheran, Fishman went 3-for-3 with a double and four RBIs to help the Longhorns top the Warriors in four innings in the Crusader Invitational.

Kellie Nelson allowed just three hits for Legacy.

Legacy 5, Tech 0 — At Faith Lutheran, Haley Pederson spun a five-inning four-hitter to guide the Longhorns by the Roadrunners in the Crusader Invitational.

Eliza Rodriguez was 2-for-3 with an RBI for Legacy.

Faith Lutheran 13, Chaparral 0 — At Faith Lutheran, Makena Martin was 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI to help the Crusaders rout the Cowboys in three innings in the Crusader Invitational.

Samantha Jack was 2-for-3 with a triple, two runs and three RBIs, and Cheyenne Kidd was 1-for-3 with a run and three RBIs for Faith Lutheran, which scored 12 runs in the bottom of the first.

Losi Brown was 1-for-2 with a double for Chaparral.

Faith Lutheran 7, Eldorado 3 — At Faith Lutheran, Gilchrist was 1-for-2 with a double and three RBIs to help the Crusaders top the Sundevils in four innings in the Crusader Invitational.

Jack went 2-for-3 with a run, and Sarah Nicholl was 1-for-1 with a double, a run and an RBI for Faith Lutheran.

Sierra Padilla went 2-for-2 with two RBIs for Eldorado.

Eldorado 6, Chaparral 5 — At Faith Lutheran, winning pitcher Heather Holman had a two-run double in a five-run fifth inning that propelled the Sundevils by the Cowboys in five innings in the Crusader Invitational.

Kristie Thomas had two hits and two RBIs, and Mariana Maldanado added two hits for Eldorado, which trailed 3-1 entering the fifth.

Brown had two hits and an RBI for Chaparral, which scored twice in the bottom of the fifth and had the potential tying run in scoring position with one out, but couldn’t advance the runner.

Eldorado 10, Tech 3 — At Faith Lutheran, Jazmine Sorchini had two hits and two RBIs as the Sundevils topped the Roadrunners in five innings in the Crusader Invitational.

Jonna White and Padilla each had two hits, and Kerri Nasife had two RBIs for Eldorado.

Etiwanda (Calif.) 6-7, Centennial 0-4 — At Centennial, Briana Wheeler tossed a three-hitter with 12 strikeouts in the opener as the Eagles swept the Bulldogs.

Etiwanda led just 2-0 before scoring four runs in the top of the seventh to pull away in the first game.

In the nightcap, the Eagles broke a 4-4 tie with three runs in the top of the seventh.

Brianna Benoit was 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Jaden Tate went 2-for-4 with a double for Centennial.
