GIRLS TENNIS: Daria Shalina carries Green Valley over Eldorado, into region seminfinals

Green Valley’s Daria Shalina went 3-0 in singles Friday to carry the Gators’ girls tennis team to an 11-7 road win over Eldorado in the Class 4A Sunrise Region quarterfinals.

The doubles teams of Megan Madrid and Alejandra De La Cruz, and Olivia Nhaisi and Rethika Kumar each went 2-0 for the Gators (8-3).

Kristie Thomas and Shannon Brown both went 2-1 in singles for Eldorado (11-4).

Green Valley will play at Coronado in the semifinals Sunday.

Coronado 14, Rancho 4 — At Coronado, the doubles team of Megan Balmer and Jessica Duff finished 2-0 as they led the Cougars (14-1) to victory over the Rams (9-7) in a Sunrise Region quarterfinal.

Liberty 15, Las Vegas 3 — At Liberty, Jada Whited was 2-1 in singles as the Patriots (9-3) defeated the Wildcats (4-5) in a Sunrise Region quarterfinal.

Liberty will face host Valley (8-2-1) in a semifinal match Saturday.

Faith Lutheran 16, Spring Valley 2 — At Faith Lutheran, Paige Erlanger went 2-0 to lift the Crusaders (15-3) over the Grizzlies (8-5) in a Sunset Region quarterfinal.

Faith Lutheran’s Dina Ciulla and Jayden Mattson went 2-0 in doubles.

The Crusaders will play at Bishop Gorman in the semifinals on Saturday.

Bishop Gorman 17, Legacy 1 — At Gorman, the doubles team of Karissa Matthews and Giovanna Chaparro went 2-0 in the Gaels’ (15-0) victory over the Longhorns (6-8) in a Sunset Region quarterfinal.

Olivia Balelo went 2-1 in singles for Gorman.

Clark 13, Centennial 5 — At Clark, Audrey Boch-Collins and Rachel Wurmbrand both went 3-0 in singles to lead the Chargers (13-3) over the Bulldogs (8-7) in a Sunset Region quarterfinal.

Clark’s doubles team of Alysandra Smith and Mia Lorenzo went 2-0.

Clark will play at Palo Verde in the semifinals on Friday.

Palo Verde 15, Bonanza 3 — At Palo Verde, the Panthers (14-0) defeated the Bengals (5-9) in a Sunset Region quarterfinal.

Desert Pines 13, Virgin Valley 5 — At Desert Pines, Cassandra Bueno went 3-0 in singles to carry the Jaguars (15-4) over the Bulldogs (7-7) in the Class 3A Southern Region quarterfinals.

The Jaguars’ doubles team of Shelly Alvarado and Yazaret Arredondo went 3-0.

Desert Pines will face host Moapa Valley in a semifinal match on Saturday.

Moapa Valley 17, Adelson School 1 — At Overton, the Pirates (10-2) defeated the Lions (4-8) in a Southern Region quarterfinal.

The Meadows 18, Tech 0 — At Darling Tennis Center, Olivia Waysack and Shayna Indyg each went 2-0 in singles to lead the Mustangs (13-2) over the Roadrunners (4-7) in a Southern Region quarterfinal.

The Meadows will host Boulder City in the semifinals Saturday.

Boulder City 17, Western 1 — At Boulder City, Tegan Pappas and Natalie Bowman each went 3-0 in singles to carry the Eagles (10-1) over the Warriors (7-6) in a Southern Region quarterfinal.

Kyra Yamamoto and McKenna Frazier, Heather Patterson and Kali Martin, and Sophia Morris and Katelyn Fox each went 2-0 in doubles for Boulder City.

Clark’s Audrey-Boch Collins claims third consecutive singles crown

Audrey Boch-Collins, a junior from Clark, defeated Madison Smith of Coronado 6-0, 6-1 in the 4A girls state championship match at Bishop Manogue to become only the second girl in state history to win three individual state championships in singles.

Coronado, Palo Verde advance to 4A girls final

Coronado beat Faith Lutheran 10-5, and Palo Verde defeated Reno 11-7 on Thursday at Bishop Manogue in the Class 4A state semifinals.
