GIRLS TENNIS: Desert Pines slips past Moapa Valley in tiebreaker

Shelly Alvarado and Yazaret Arredondo went 3-0 in doubles, and Desert Pines’ girls tennis team defeated host Moapa Valley 10-9 in a tiebreaker Saturday in the Class 3A Southern Region semifinals at Overton.

Cassandra Bueno was 2-1 in singles for Desert Pines, which won the tiebreaker 4-2.

The Jaguars (16-4) advance to the championship match and will meet The Meadows (14-2) at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Darling Tennis Center.

Lindsey Leavitt was 2-1 in singles to lead Moapa Valley (10-3). Morgan Aikele and Lillian Leavitt finished 2-1 in doubles for the Pirates.

The Meadows 16, Boulder City 2 — At The Meadows, the Mustangs overwhelmed the Eagles (10-2) in the semifinals.


Bishop Gorman 11, Faith Lutheran 7 — At Gorman, Angelique Friedrich was 3-0 in singles to help the Gaels edge the Crusaders in the Sunset Region semifinals.

Ava Bailey went 2-1 in singles for Bishop Gorman (16-0), which will play Palo Verde (15-0) for the region crown at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Darling Tennis Center.

The doubles teams of Olivia Maalouf and Karissa Matthews, and Emma Figueredo and Courtney Wolfson finished 2-1 for the Gaels.

Madison Foley and Summer Stadtlander went 3-0 in doubles, and Paige Erlanger went 2-0 in singles for Faith Lutheran (15-4).

Palo Verde 13, Clark 5 — At Palo Verde, Abby Lewis and Kaya Richardson went 3-0 in doubles to help the Panthers beat the Chargers.

Audrey Boch-Collins finished 3-0 in singles for Clark (13-4).


Coronado 12, Green Valley 6 — At Coronado, Hannah Grossman was 3-0 in singles to lead the Cougars past the Gators in the Sunrise Region semifinals.

Megan King finished 2-1 in singles for Coronado (15-1), which will take on Liberty in the region final at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Darling Tennis Center.

Daria Shalina was 2-1 in singles for Green Valley (8-4).

Liberty 12, Valley 6 — At Valley, the Patriots (10-3) defeated the Vikings (8-3-1) in the Sunrise Region semifinals.

Clark’s Audrey-Boch Collins claims third consecutive singles crown

Audrey Boch-Collins, a junior from Clark, defeated Madison Smith of Coronado 6-0, 6-1 in the 4A girls state championship match at Bishop Manogue to become only the second girl in state history to win three individual state championships in singles.

Coronado, Palo Verde advance to 4A girls final

Coronado beat Faith Lutheran 10-5, and Palo Verde defeated Reno 11-7 on Thursday at Bishop Manogue in the Class 4A state semifinals.
