REGION TRACK: Faith Lutheran girls ride wins by Nikodemus

Cayla Nikodemus won two events on Friday night to lead Faith Lutheran’s girls track team to the lead after the first day of the Division I-A Southern Region meet at Sunrise Mountain.

Nikodemus won the long jump with a mark of 18 feet, 3¼ inches, and cleared 5-0 in the high jump to help the Crusaders to the lead with 94 points.

Pahrump Valley is second with 72, and Cheyenne has 43.

Clarissa Maxey won the 200-meter dash (24.52 seconds) for Faith Lutheran.

Pahrump’s Sydney Sladek won the 1,600-meter run (5:25.83), and Amanda Head was first in the discus (113-4) for the Trojans, who also won the 3,200 relay (9:59.97).

Boulder City leads the Division I-A boys meet despite not winning an event on Friday. The Eagles (46 points) hold a narrow lead over Sunrise Mountain (45) and Chaparral (43).

Sunrise Mountain won the 1,600 relay (3:23.97).

Chaparral took the 400 relay (43.21). The Cowboys also got a win in the shot put, as William Hernandez won with a throw of 53-5.

In the Division III meet, The Meadows leads the boys competition with 78 points. Laughlin is second with 70.

Johnnie Woodson won the 100 (11.2), Kwaku Kufuor took the 300 hurdles (42.07), and Mark Woodson took the shot put (43-9) for The Meadows, which also won the 400 relay (44.86).

White Pine leads the Division III girls with 116 points. The Meadows girls are second with 73½.

Bailey Gosse won the 1,600 in 5:42.55 to lead the Mustangs, who also won the 3,200 relay with Gosse teaming with sisters Cassidy and Delaney along with Jeneke Heerema to finish in 10:56.7.

Calvary Chapel’s Phallen Nelson won the long jump (17-1¼) and 200 (26.6).

In Division IV, Spring Mountain’s boys lead with 107 points.

Bobb Marquez won the 3,200 (12:25.88) for the Golden Eagles.

Beatty is second with 74.

Beatty’s girls have 157 points and lead second-place Lund by 100 in the Division IV girls meet.

All three region meets conclude today, with finals beginning at 9:30 a.m.
