ROUNDUP: Durkin, Centennial outlast Palo Verde for Northwest’s top seed

Leo Durkin had 30 assists and 15 kills Tuesday to help Centennial’s boys volleyball team clinch the Northwest League’s top seed for the Sunset Region playoffs with a 25-22, 21-25, 25-19, 21-25, 15-9 victory over visiting Palo Verde.

Ryan Ramin also had 15 kills for Centennial, which scored the first four points of the fifth set.

Dylan Morris added 12 kills for the Bulldogs, and Josh Arias had 18 digs.

Brandon King led Palo Verde with 18 kills and seven digs.

Sean Wilson supplied 28 assists and four digs for the Panthers, and teammate Pat Morrison notched 13 digs.

Cimarron-Memorial 3, Arbor View 2 — At Arbor View, Tanner Maxwell’s decisive kill in the fifth set helped the Spartans complete a rally for a 23-25, 20-25, 25-17, 25-19, 17-15 victory over the Aggies.

Maxwell finished with 17 kills for Cimarron, and Ares Manumaleuna supplied 21 kills and nine digs.

Taylor Larsen added 26 assists for the Spartans, and teammate Braydon Egbert had 15 digs.

Richard Garness led Arbor View with 21 assists, and Dylan Mengert had 20 digs for the Aggies.

Cheyenne 3, Legacy 1 — At Cheyenne, Casey Johansen had 13 kills, two blocks, four digs and two aces to lead the Desert Shields to a 14-25, 25-20, 25-20, 25-22 win over the Longhorns.

Nathan Pryor supplied 11 kills, three digs and two aces, and Carlos Mezquitan added 12 assists for Cheyenne.

Justin Paquin powered Legacy with 15 kills and 11 digs. Keith Noordo added 27 digs, and Erik Valerio had 21 assists for the Longhorns. 

Foothill 3, Liberty 2 — At Foothill, Dominic Hoffman supplied 36 assists, and Caleb Hutchinson had eight kills to help the Falcons outlast the Patriots, 25-17, 17-25, 30-28, 20-25, 15-11.

Tyler Close added six blocks for Foothill.

Daniel Filimona had 10 digs and six kills, and Oscar Palma finished with 16 assists for Liberty.

Basic 3, Del Sol 1 — At Basic, Tanner Humpherys had nine blocks, 10 digs and 21 kills to lead the Wolves past Del Sol, 26-28, 25-14, 25-17, 25-17.

Mark Bowman contributed 18 blocks and 11 kills, and Steven Stembridge had 24 assists and eight digs for Basic.

Cameron Ely tallied 13 digs and eight kills, and Nick Maglaras had 33 assists for the Dragons. Eric Beil added 16 kills for Del Sol.

Shadow Ridge 3, Mojave 0 — At Shadow Ridge, Matt Popp had seven kills and five blocks, and Justin Kent added five aces and five kills as the Mustangs swept the Rattlers, 25-9, 25-12, 25-6.

Kyle Combado supplied four aces for Shadow Ridge.

Green Valley 3, Tech 0 — At Tech, Nick Hevrin had 36 assists to lead the Gators to a 25-23, 25-10, 25-17 sweep of the Roadrunners.

Wesley Reed added 13 kills and four blocks, and Beau Gronert had 10 kills and three blocks for Green Valley.

Dalton Webb paced Tech with six kills and four digs, and teammate Adan Hernandez added five kills.
