VOLLEYBALL: Pequeno, Wolves rally to down Sundevils

Joaquin Pequeno had 12 kills and two blocks Thursday as Basic’s boys volleyball team rallied for a 25-27, 17-25, 25-22, 25-18, 15-11 road win over Eldorado.

Auston Farrington added eight kills for the Wolves, and teammate Brad McDonald had six kills and two blocks. Taylor Dyer had 28 assists for Basic.

Jacob Tibbs and Jacob Hollingsworth each had 16 kills for Eldorado. Michael Thomas added 42 assists for the Sundevils, and teammate Charles Sweet had four blocks.

Cheyenne 3, Western 1 — At Western, Dylan Johnson tallied 12 kills and six blocks, and Oscar Monzon finished with 31 assists in the Desert Shields’ 25-15, 25-12, 24-26, 25-19 victory over the Warriors.

Manuel Guillermo had 11 assists, 10 digs and two aces, and Arturo Gonzalez added 13 digs for Western.

Legacy 3, Bishop Gorman 0 — At Gorman, Tanner Compton supplied 20 kills and five digs to power the Longhorns to a 25-13, 25-18, 25-17 sweep of the Gaels.

Zaire Franklin and Jonah Tarlton each added six kills for Legacy.

Cody Tom led Bishop Gorman with 20 assists.

Centennial 3, Desert Oasis 1 — At Desert Oasis, Tanner Durkin had 13 kills, and Chet Durkin supplied 34 assists and four aces as the Bulldogs topped the Diamondbacks, 25-19, 25-16, 22-25, 25-18.

Nyajee Washington had eight kills, and Tanner Polley chipped in six kills for Centennial.

Foothill 3, Del Sol 0 — At Foothill, Colin Curi had 11 kils and two blocks, and Ryan Briggs supplied 10 kills and eight digs to help the Falcons to a 25-21, 25-13, 25-12 win over the Dragons.

Taeg Williams had 30 assists, and Trevor Robison added eight kills, three aces and two blocks for Foothill.

Kyle Collins had four aces, three assists, two kills and 11 digs for Del Sol. Jared Moreda added five blocks and four digs, and La’akea Cabanas had five kills and two blocks for the Dragons.

Mojave 3, Clark 0 — At Mojave, Clayton Fontano had 14 kills, and Jovan Carrazco had 36 assists and four aces as the Rattlers swept the Chargers, 25-20, 25-16, 25-13.

Jordan Glenn supplied eight kills and three blocks, and Matt Albinio put down 11 kills for Mojave.

Walter Regalado had 19 assists and three aces, and Daniel Diaz-Villa added eight kills for Clark.

Coronado 3, Liberty 0 — At Liberty, Logan Dickover had 23 assists and two digs as the Cougars beat the Patriots, 25-12, 25-17, 25-17.

Max Osmundson had 13 kills, six digs and two aces, and Travis Boman had seven kills and five digs for Coronado, wich got five kills and three blocks from Blake Evans.

D.J. Norris and Mike Meatovich each had four kills for Liberty.

Bonanza 3, Cimarron-Memorial 0 — At Cimarron, Kellen Layne recorded eight kills, eight assists and five digs to lead the Bengals to a 25-13, 25-17, 25-7 sweep of the Spartans.

Brian Clow added nine kills and three assists, and Andrew Jensen supplied 10 kills for Bonanza, which got 16 assists from Joshua Lee.

Dallas Cervantes led Cimarron with seven digs and five kills, teammate Nate Starlin dished out 13 assists.

All-state teams to be announced in June

All-state teams in all eight spring sports will be released one per day, beginning on June 6 with boys golf.

Desert Region: Freshman Jacob Ceci helps Cougars top Foothill

Ceci put the finishing touches on a 21-25, 25-16, 25-23, 22-25, 15-11 victory over the Falcons with a thunderous kill in the fifth and final set, clinching Coronado’s first region championship since 2013.

Roundup: Caleb Stearman helps Foothill into Desert final

Stearman’s sixth kill of the fifth set allowed the Falcons to complete a 20-25, 22-25, 25-20, 25-23, 15-11 comeback and advance to both Friday’s region final and next week’s state tournament.

Roundup: Kilmor Amor helps Spartans reach Mountain semifinals

Kilmor Amor had 15 kills, 23 assists and 10 digs Wednesday to help Cimarron-Memorial’s boys volleyball team down Shadow Ridge, 20-25, 25-18, 25-20, 25-19 in the quarterfinals of the Mountain Region Tournament at Palo Verde.
