VOLLEYBALL: Weston’s 55 assists power Panthers past Mustangs

Andrew Weston distributed 55 assists on Thursday as Palo Verde’s boys volleyball team edged visiting Shadow Ridge, 22-25, 25-12, 23-25, 25-15, 15-11.

Brigham Clawson had 25 kills for the Panthers, and teammate Michael Simister had 14 kills.

Ryan Nielson added 18 digs for Palo Verde.

Quinn Peterson had 18 kills to pace the Mustangs. Cody Heathcock added seven kills and three blocks, and Nathan Makaiwi had 39 assists and 14 digs for Shadow Ridge.

Las Vegas 3, Silverado 0 — At Las Vegas, T.J. Esporas finished with 14 kills and six digs, and Chris Kampshoff added 13 kills and nine digs as the Wildcats swept the Skyhawks, 25-15, 25-20, 26-24.

Shayne Marquez had 37 assists and six digs, and teammate Brian Singson had four kills and 10 digs for Las Vegas.

Austin Hunt led Silverado with 12 kills and 11 digs. Cody Steckel had 22 assists, and Travis Houston notched nine digs for the Skyhawks.

Green Valley 3, Rancho 0 — At Green Valley, Dustin Elliott’s 12 kills and seven digs led the Gators to a 25-19, 25-23, 25-21 sweep of the Rams.

Brian Ellington added five kills and three blocks for Green Valley, and teammate Ethan Hunt contributed five kills, four digs and two blocks. Arvin Nitollama had 27 assists and nine digs for the Gators.

Rancho’s Ryan Hafen had six kills and six blocks, and Aaron Robles added 11 assists and seven digs for the Rams, who got 13 digs from Douglas Candido.

Valley 3, Canyon Springs 0 — At Valley, David Delaney had 10 assists and nine digs to lift the Vikings to a 25-10, 25-7, 26-24 win over the Pioneers.

Jack Heavey put down 15 kills, and Matt Ballaro notched eight kills and seven aces for Valley, which got 17 assists from Alex Sandoval.

Sierra Vista 3, Spring Valley 0 — At Sierra Vista, Julius Sison provided 20 assists, seven aces, and six digs to lead the Mountain Lions to a 25-6, 25-11, 25-19 sweep of the Grizzlies.

Gian Soriano had 12 digs, and Diego Gutierrez added nine kills for Sierra Vista.

Bradd Robison supplied six kills and Troy Lance contributed four blocks to lead Spring Valley.

Arbor View 3, Durango 0 — At Durango, Darien Bradley had 15 kills to lead the Aggies over the Trailblazers, 25-12, 25-16, 25-15.

Darrell Swanson added eight kills and four aces, and Nick Kastenholz notched 11 kills for Arbor View.

Frank Patricio had six digs, and Michael Diggins recorded four kills for Durango, which got seven assists from Pedro Abrego.

Tech 3, Sunrise Mountain 0 — At Tech, Tyler Gardenhire had five kills and five aces to lead the Roadrunners to a 25-15, 25-14, 25-13 sweep of the Miners.

Joshua Wood contributed seven kills and two aces for Tech, and teammate Bryant Pochop added seven kills. Miguel Garcia also recorded six kills for the Roadrunners.

Chaparral 3, Desert Pines 0 — At Chaparral, Pierce Morgan had 10 kills, nine digs and two aces as the Cowboys swept the Jaguars, 25-12, 25-12, 25-18.

Matt Sanger added eight kills, 12 digs and two aces, and Meldrick Nava had five kills for Chaparral.

All-state teams to be announced in June

All-state teams in all eight spring sports will be released one per day, beginning on June 6 with boys golf.

Class 4A: Palo Verde rolls to state title

Senior Scott Solan had 13 kills, six digs and three aces as the Panthers defeated Coronado 25-15, 25-19, 25-16 on Thursday to win their fifth state championship.

Ceci put the finishing touches on a 21-25, 25-16, 25-23, 22-25, 15-11 victory over the Falcons with a thunderous kill in the fifth and final set, clinching Coronado’s first region championship since 2013.

Roundup: Caleb Stearman helps Foothill into Desert final

Stearman’s sixth kill of the fifth set allowed the Falcons to complete a 20-25, 22-25, 25-20, 25-23, 15-11 comeback and advance to both Friday’s region final and next week’s state tournament.

Roundup: Kilmor Amor helps Spartans reach Mountain semifinals

Kilmor Amor had 15 kills, 23 assists and 10 digs Wednesday to help Cimarron-Memorial’s boys volleyball team down Shadow Ridge, 20-25, 25-18, 25-20, 25-19 in the quarterfinals of the Mountain Region Tournament at Palo Verde.
