VOLLEYBALL: Wolves hold off Falcons

Auston Farrington had 10 kills, three aces and two blocks, and Taylor Dyer added 33 assists Tuesday to help Basic’s boys volleyball team to a 25-18, 16-25, 25-22, 27-25 victory over visiting Foothill.

Joaquin Pequeno added 11 kills and six blocks for the Wolves.

Foothill’s Taeg Williams notched 50 assists and nine digs, and teammate Colin Curi had 17 kills and three blocks. Trevor Robison added 15 kills and nine digs for the Falcons.

Centennial 3, Bishop Gorman 0 — At Centennial, Chet Durkin had 34 assists, six kills, 10 digs and three aces to help the Bulldogs to a 25-11, 25-21, 25-19 sweep of the Gaels.

Tanner Durkin added 15 kills and two aces, and Parker Grimes had seven kills and three blocks for Centennial.

Legacy 3, Cimarron-Memorial 0 — At Legacy, Trent Compton had 12 kills and seven aces, and Tanner Compton added 10 kills and two digs as the Longhorns swept the Spartans, 25-19, 25-8, 25-21.

Zaire Franklin had six kills and five digs, and Braden Liu dished out 25 assists for Legacy.

Roy Gonzalez had four kills and seven digs, and teammate Nate Starlin contributed seven assists and five digs for Cimarron.

Clark 3, Cheyenne 0 — At Clark, Walter Regalado had 22 assists and six aces to help the Chargers to a 25-13, 25-10, 25-16 victory over the Desert Shields.

Walt Benda had seven kills and three aces, and Henok Mucheye added six kills and two blocks for Clark, which got six kills from Jose Soto.

Dylan Johnson had five blocks for Cheyenne.

Bonanza 3, Desert Oasis 0 — At Bonanza, Andrew Jensen had eight kills and seven digs, and Kellen Layne added eight kills and three digs to lead the Bengals to a 25-19, 25-16, 25-14 wwin over the Diamondbacks.

Brian Clow had seven kills and five digs, and Josh Lee had 28 assists for Bonanza.

Coronado 3, Eldorado 0 — At Coronado, Travis Boman had 15 kills and four digs, and Logan Dickover notched 28 assists, seven digs and two aces in the Cougars’ 25-19, 25-12, 25-8 victory over the Sundevils.

Bryan Dallin posted eight kills, eight digs and two aces, and Max Osmundson had seven kills for Coronado.

Mojave 3, Western 0 — At Mojave, Alex Carvalho had nine kills, seven digs and four aces, and Clayton Fontano had seven kills, three aces and four blocks to help the Rattlers defeat the Warriors, 25-6, 25-12, 25-6.

Jason Zambrano had 18 assists and two aces, and Daniel Wilson supplied nine digs and five aces for Mojave.

Liberty 3, Del Sol 0 — At Del Sol, the Patriots were 25-14, 25-12, 25-18 winners over the Dragons.

All-state teams to be announced in June

All-state teams in all eight spring sports will be released one per day, beginning on June 6 with boys golf.

Class 4A: Palo Verde rolls to state title

Senior Scott Solan had 13 kills, six digs and three aces as the Panthers defeated Coronado 25-15, 25-19, 25-16 on Thursday to win their fifth state championship.

Desert Region: Freshman Jacob Ceci helps Cougars top Foothill

Ceci put the finishing touches on a 21-25, 25-16, 25-23, 22-25, 15-11 victory over the Falcons with a thunderous kill in the fifth and final set, clinching Coronado’s first region championship since 2013.

Roundup: Caleb Stearman helps Foothill into Desert final

Stearman’s sixth kill of the fifth set allowed the Falcons to complete a 20-25, 22-25, 25-20, 25-23, 15-11 comeback and advance to both Friday’s region final and next week’s state tournament.

Roundup: Kilmor Amor helps Spartans reach Mountain semifinals

Kilmor Amor had 15 kills, 23 assists and 10 digs Wednesday to help Cimarron-Memorial’s boys volleyball team down Shadow Ridge, 20-25, 25-18, 25-20, 25-19 in the quarterfinals of the Mountain Region Tournament at Palo Verde.
