LAKE MEAD CLASSIC: Lions ace first day of tournament

Brettani Davis and Lauri Perri each served eight aces in the opening match as Calvary Chapel’s girls volleyball team won twice Friday on the opening day of the Lake Mead Fall Classic.

The Lions beat Lund, 25-12, 25-5 in their opening match, then defeated Buena Park (Calif.), 25-16, 25-15.

Against Lund, Perri had 10 assists to go along with her eight aces. Bri Ridley, Chelsea England and Deja Harris had four kills apiece for the Lions. Ridley also had four aces.

Against Buena Park, Davis served nine aces and posted five digs. Ridley added nine kills and two aces, and Perri dished our seven assists.

Lake Mead 2, Beatty 1 — Ashley Newton registered 11 kills, three aces and two digs as the Eagles outlasted the Hornets, 25-21, 17-25, 15-10.

Megan Watkins supplied 11 assists, five digs and two aces for Lake Mead. Heather Hillenbrand added four kills, two aces and two digs for the Eagles.

Arbor View 2, Lake Mead 0 — The Aggies were 25-13, 25-19 winners over the Eagles.

Watkins racked up six digs and six assists for Lake Mead. Newton had six kills, and Anny Liston added six digs for the Eagles.

Lake Mead 2, Lund 0 — Newton supplied nine aces, six kills and five digs to lift the Eagles past Lund in the opening round of bracket play, 25-10, 25-14.

Hillenbrand added seven kills and three aces for Lake Mead, and Watkins distributed 11 assists.
