19-year-old who died in crash ID’d

The 19-year-old man who died after losing control of his Acura Integra on Friday morning has been identified as Ruben Martinez of Las Vegas.

Martinez was driving north on Civic Center Drive about 6:15 a.m. when he lost control of the car on a curve where the road turns into Alexander Road, according to North Las Vegas police.

Witnesses said Martinez was driving at a high rate of speed before the car spun into oncoming traffic on Alexander. A 1981 Chevrolet El Camino struck the passenger side of the Acura, shearing the car in half.

Martinez was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the El Camino was hospitalized with potentially life-threatening injuries.
