The U.S. Marshals Service in Nevada joined local and state law enforcement officers for a fugitive roundup this week that led to the arrests of 62 people, including a suspect in a California homicide.
According to a statement from the U.S. Marshals Service, Rayford Newsome is accused of fatally shooting a 19-year-old good Samaritan who was attempting to break up a fight on April 8 in Apple Valley, Calif. Newsome, 29, was arrested Friday on a murder charge and booked into the Clark County Detention Center pending extradition to California.
Law enforcement agencies in Nevada collaborated to make this week’s arrests as part of Operation FDR, a fugitive roundup conducted in honor of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week.
The operation was named after the Justice Department’s Office for Victims of Crime 2010 theme: “Fairness. Dignity. Respect.”
