Bicyclist injured after being hit by car

A man riding a bicycle was hit by an SUV just before 7 a.m. Wednesday near Sunrise Manor.

The bicyclist was traveling eastbound on the north side sidewalk along Lake Mead Boulevard, near Nellis Boulevard, when the driver of the a westound Chevrolet Trailblazer drove onto the sidewalk and struck the bicyclist, according to Las Vegas police.

The driver of the Trailblazer continued westbound and struck a utility pole on the northwest corner of the intersection of Lake Mead Boulevard and Ringe Lane, poliice said. The pole was sheared off at the base from the force of the collision.

The bicyclist was transported to University Medical Center with substantial but not life-threatening injuries, according to police.
