Both major parties increase voter registration in Nevada

CARSON CITY — There was an across-the-board increase in Nevada voter registrations in March.

The secretary of state’s office reported Tuesday that the number of active registered voters increased by 5,027 from a month earlier.

Democrats hold a nearly 64,000 registration lead over Republicans.

A breakdown shows Democrats account for 41 percent of active Nevada voters, while 35 percent are Republican.

More than 200,000 or roughly 18 percent of Nevada voters are registered as nonpartisan, and 5 percent align with the Independent American Party.

The rest are affiliated with minor political parties.

Registration closes May 20 to be eligible to vote in Nevada’s June 10 primary election.
