Boxer Gorres collapses, rushed to UMC

Bantamweight Z Gorres suffered a subdural hematoma Friday night during Top Rank’s fight card at the House of Blues at Mandalay Bay.

Gorres, 27, had just won a 10-round unanimous decision over Luis Melendez when he collapsed in his corner and had to be carried out on a stretcher. He was taken to University Medical Center and was scheduled to have surgery late Friday.

Gorres, a native of the Philippines, was knocked down with 25 seconds left in the fight and was hit by a low blow earlier in the round. He was able to finish but when he tried to leave the ring, his legs buckled and he fell to the canvas.
