Clark County Fire: 2 people die in plane crash near Lake Mead’s Echo Bay

Two people died after a plane went down near Echo Bay Airport in the area of Lake Mead south of Valley of Fire State Park.

The call came in just before 9 p.m. Thursday. Clark County firefighters, along with volunteer units from Overton and Moapa, first responded after a witness reported seeing a two-seater plane go down near the north end of the lake.

A Metro Search and Rescue team and National Park Service rangers also were on scene.

The plane crashed on land several hundred yards from an airstrip, Lake Mead National Recreation Area spokeswoman Christie Vanover said. Fire units reported seeing flames.

At 10:45 p.m., Clark County deputy fire chief Jon Klassen confirmed two bodies had been found.

The Clark County coroner’s office will release the identity of the deceased.
