Coronado High School bicyclist seriously injured in accident

A Coronado High School student was seriously injured when he was struck by a car driven by another student while riding his bike this morning in Henderson.

The 18-year-old was riding in the crosswalk of Sunridge Heights Parkway and Rich Perez Jr. Drive around 6:50 a.m. when he was hit by a car, according to Henderson police.

The driver of the Chrysler minivan, who attends the school with the victim, told police sun glare was a factor in the accident, police spokesman Todd Rasmussen said.

The victim, whose name was not released by police, wasn't wearing a helmet. He was transported to University Medical Center.

Speed is not believed to have played a role in the accident, he said.
