Deaths of Incline Village pedestrians spurs California man’s arrest

INCLINE VILLAGE -- A 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence in the Friday night deaths of two pedestrians in Incline Village.

Christopher Smith of Grass Valley, Calif., was booked into the Washoe County jail on a charge of failure to yield to pedestrians.

The Nevada Highway Patrol said Smith was driving a pickup on state Route 28 with three passengers when the pedestrians were struck as they tried to cross the highway.

Highway Patrol officials said the Incline Village residents were in a crosswalk or close to it at the time.

A man died at the scene and a woman died while being rushed to a Reno hospital.
