The Beastie Boys’ Adam "MCA" Yauch is recovering well from a cancerous salivary gland and lymph node — and the Beastie Boys will be back in action soon enough, says the man who makes the music for rappers.
"Adam is doing great. We’ll be out (on tour) in no time," says Mike Schwartz, also known as Mix Master Mike.
"We’re gonna be on the road together soon. It’s just a little bump in the road."
Mix Master Mike isn’t just the Beastie’s music maker. He’s been known as the greatest living DJ/turntablist. You should see him perform Sunday at club Blush at the Wynn if you can.
Mike owns a house in Vegas. It was there that he put down new song structures, before finishing the tunes in Hollywood.
Read about that in my interview with him in the back of today’s Neon section, in which I ask Mix Master Mike whether he’s considering Neil Diamond‘s desire to collaborate with the Beastie Boys (yes, Neil Diamond).
Read today’s Neon section for more on: Def Leppard, Poison and Cheap Trick on Saturday at MGM Grand Garden arena; Santana on Friday and beyond at Hard Rock; Puddle of Mudd on Friday at Hard Rock pool; Jay Leno on Friday and Saturday at Mirage; Ralphie May on Friday and Saturday at South Point; Jaguares on Friday at Terrible’s in Primm; the Power 88 Super Soul Gospel Fest on Saturday at Henderson Pavilion; and Julianne Hough Saturday at Mandalay Bay Beach pool.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m on vacation in Rome. You kids have fun. See you next week.
