Firefighters show up in force as commissioners hear spending cut report

About 200 firefighters wearing yellow T-shirts made a unified show of force today as Clark County commissioners received an advisory panel’s report, which includes recommendations to reduce firefighters’ overtime pay and eliminate paramedic teams.

The report is a culmination of a 15-person panel’s talks over several months and written ballots they cast two weeks ago.

The Committee on Community Priorities formed in July to discuss making departments leaner in the face of a $126 million shortfall next budget year.

Upon receiving the report today, commissioners said they would discuss the suggestions piecemeal rather than tackling them all at once.
