Fredericks might rest beside Jordan

John Fredericks and his beloved golden lab Jordan may be reunited again.

John Overall, a close friend of the former Channel 3 meteorologist who died Friday, confirmed on Sunday there have been discussions to have Fredericks’ final resting place next to Jordan, who is buried at Craig Road Pet Cemetery.

Overall met Sunday with a group, including a cousin of Fredericks , to discuss that possibility, along with funeral arrangements and a public memorial next weekend.

It was an emotional week that saw the Las Vegas television community rally around one of their own.

Former colleagues and one-time competitors were among many who showed up to support Fredericks during his final days at Nathan Adelson Hospice, 4141 Swenson St.

Fredericks had fallen on hard times. He was virtually penniless after a series of setbacks that began five years ago with the death of Jordan.

"He made some mistakes," Overall said, "but people are remembering the good things he did. He had a good heart and did a lot for the pet community."

Overall, a former morning anchor at KSNV-TV, Channel 3, and Casey Smith, a former morning anchor at KLAS-TV, Channel 8, were golf partners with Fredericks at media events over the years.

Smith, now a morning anchor at KTNV-TV, Channel 13, was among the many local TV personalities who went to Fredericks’ bedside.

Others included: KSNV’s morning team of Dana and Kim Wagner and Tom Hawley, KLAS meteorologist Sherry Swensk and Judy Greene, executive producer at KVVU-TV, Channel 5.

Many tears flowed during Greene’s visit, I’m told. Her fiancé, NV Energy worker Herbie Goforth III, died in September after a fall from a tower, two weeks before their wedding.

KSNV evening anchor Jim Snyder stopped in about noon on Friday, two hours before Fredericks died at age 57.

Another former Channel 3 colleague, Chera Kimiko, talked to Fredericks on Thanksgiving. "He started crying and asked me to call him on Friday," said Kimiko, now a top anchor in Tulsa.

When she called back several times on Friday, the telephone went to voice mail.

Clarification: The dog shown with Fredericks in a photo that appeared in this space on Saturday was L.J., not Jordan. L.J., short for Little Jordan, appeared on air with Fredericks before a biting incident ended that studio arrangement.
