CARSON CITY — Brent Boynton, Gov. Jim Gibbons’ director of communications, announced Monday he will leave his job Sept. 7 to return to work as a Reno television anchor.
Boynton will become the main anchorman at KOLO-TV, Channel 8. Tad Dunbar recently retired after serving as anchor at the Reno station for more than 20 years.
Before taking a job with Gibbons’ congressional office early in 2006, Boynton had been an anchor and reporter for KOLO and earlier at KTNV-TV, Channel 2, in Reno.
He had spent 28 years in television journalism, including working in Reno since 1993, before joining Gibbons’ staff.
Working with Gibbons has been “a great honor,” Boynton said.
“I will miss working for him and working with the talented and devoted people I have been proud to call my co-workers.”
But he said the chance to become the main anchor and assistant news director at KOLO was an offer he could not refuse.
Melissa Subbotin will remain as Gibbons’ press secretary.
Before moving to Nevada, Boynton worked at a television station in Lubbock, Texas, and taught radio and television announcing at a college in Amarillo, Texas.
