Grand jury indicts two in Las Vegas kidnapping

A woman and man have been indicted on charges of kidnapping a woman two days after Christmas and duct taping her before throwing her in the trunk of a car, prosecutors said Wednesday.

Sandra Herrera, 37, faces 13 charges including, first-degree kidnapping, burglary, robbery, extortion and grand larceny auto. James Grayson, whose age was not immediately available, faces charges of first-degree kidnapping, conspiracy to commit kidnapping and extortion.

District Judge Michelle Leavitt set bail at $1 million for Herrera and $100,000 for Grayson.

Herrera a known drug dealer, believed another man and woman had stolen from her and went to their apartment in the 1700 block of north Decatur Boulevard on Dec. 27 under the guise of exchanging Christmas gifts, prosecutor Elizabeth Mercer said.

Once inside, Herrera pulled out a gun and beat the two victims “pretty severely” and kidnapped the woman at gunpoint, according to the prosecutor.

The woman was duct taped over her eyes, wrists, ankles and thighs and put in a trunk, Mercer said. Grayson then held the woman for several hours before police found her a day later.

Herrera has four felony convictions on charges of burglary, conspiracy to sell a controlled substance, transporting a controlled substance and possession of a methamphetamine with intent to distribute.

Mercer said she considered Herrera a flight risk and could escape to Mexico if released from jail.

“She has people who are willing to do her dirty work for her,” Mercer said.
