ELKO — Authorities in northeast Nevada are investigating the discovery of what an official described as a “mostly skeletal” corpse off Interstate 80.
The Elko Daily Free Press reported Friday that the decomposing nude human remains were found by a Nevada Highway Patrol trooper making an unrelated traffic stop Thursday near the Interstate 80 exit at Elburz, northeast of Elko.
Elko County Sheriff’s Lt. Doug Gailey told the newspaper the trooper investigated after seeing what he thought was a deer leg bone in nearby sagebrush.
Gailey says the gender, age and cause of death were not immediately determined.
He said the body appeared to have been dumped by the side of the road.
