Illinois man charged with hiding dead woman’s body jailed in Las Vegas

A woman was found dead in her Illinois home and the man who owned the house will spend this holiday season locked up in the Clark County Detention Center.

William J. Ross, 62, is facing a charge of concealment of a homicidal death, a felony, after the Nov. 6 discovery of a 49-year-old woman’s remains. The woman was living in the McHenry County, Ill. home that he owned, according to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.

Ross was arrested in Las Vegas on Nov. 7 by the U.S. Marshal Service and will remain in jail until his felony arraignment on Feb. 13.

Jacqueline R. Schaefer, 49, had not been seen for over 18 months prior to the discovery of her remains, according the sheriff’s office. The sheriff’s office and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office released her name two days before Christmas, after using DNA to confirm her identity.

Her remains were discovered by a caretaker in the house, on the 500 block of Country Club Road in unincorporated McHenry County, that she had previously lived in.
