Female victim in travel trailer fire identified

The 58-year-old woman found dead in a burned out travel trailer Tuesday morning was identified as Sophia Kalfas by the Clark County coroner's office.

Kalfas died after the travel trailer behind her home at 8875 Hickam Ave. near El Capitan Way, caught fire.

Fire investigators are still unsure what caused the fire.

The Las Vegas woman's family said she used the trailer as a retreat where she would occasionally smoke.

A space heater, an air purifier and a reflective lamp were found among the charred items in the trailer.

Male victim in shooting near grocery store ID'd

The man shot multiple times behind an East Bonanza Road grocery store on Jan. 21 has been identified by the Clark County coroner's office as Jose Gonzalez of Las Vegas.

The 60-year-old was slain behind a Lucky supermarket on Bonanza Road near Eastern Avenue. Witnesses told police they saw a man and woman flee shortly after the shooting, which was reported at 7:46 p.m.

Las Vegas police had made no arrests in the case as of Thursday afternoon.

Las Vegas group home fined over violations

A Las Vegas group home specializing in the care of people with Alzheimer's has been fined $3,100 by the Bureau of Health Care Quality and Compliance for failing to properly care for a patient and for other violations, officials announced.

Good Samaritan Group Home, located at 3696 S. Pecos Road, was fined a total of $2,000 for two Level 4 violations -- the most serious breach under state regulations. Both violations related to the care of a patient.

The group home was fined an additional $1,100 for lesser violations, health officials said.
