Kingman caregiver arrested in death of patient

KINGMAN, Ariz. — A live-in caregiver has been arrested in the death of his patient in Kingman, Ariz.

An investigation began on Christmas Eve when Robert John Adkins, 51, called police to report the death of Michael Sudkamp, 53, in Sudkamp’s home in the 900 block of Astor Avenue, police said.

Sudkamp had numerous health issues and, Adkins told investigators, fell often, Deputy Police Chief Rusty Cooper said.

An autopsy concluded that Sudkamp, who had 27 broken ribs and internal organ injuries, died of blunt force trauma, Sgt. Bob Fisk said

Police said Adkins denied involvement in Sudkamp’s death. Adkins was arrested Friday on charges of second-degree murder and vulnerable adult abuse.
