LV man arrested, charged in shooting outside of tavern
Las Vegas police arrested a 23-year-old man this week for the fatal shooting outside of a bar early Saturday morning.
Peter Simpkins faces a charge of murder with a deadly weapon for the death of Tyron Stacey Nelon, who died after being shot in the head outside the New Town Tavern at 600 E. Jackson Ave, near Martin L. King Boulevard and Owens Avenue.
One witness told police that Simpkins was upset with Nelon because Nelon hadn't paid him for a rock of cocaine, according to Simpkins' arrest report.
Another witness saw Simpkins walking away from the victim immediately after the shooting. Both witnesses identified him in a photo lineup, according to the report.
After his arrest, Simpkins told police that Nelon had threatened him with a .22 caliber handgun and that when he pulled out his own gun, it went off accidentally, according to the report.
He is being held at the Clark County Detention Center without bail.
