LV police hunt suspect in assault
Las Vegas police are searching for a man who attempted to rob and sexually assault a woman earlier this month in the area of Tropicana Avenue and Pecos Road.
Police said the incident happened about 5:30 a.m. on Sept. 14 when a woman was accosted as she took out trash.
Lt. John Bradshaw said the unidentified man approached the woman with a knife in an attempt to steal valuables. When the man noticed the woman didn't have any valuables, he attempted to stick his hands down her pants. Bradshaw said the assault lasted about a minute and ended when the suspect saw a passing police car.
"A patrol officer passed by and scared him off," Bradshaw said. "It could have been worse."
Police said the suspect might be a transient who lives in the area. Bradshaw said the man might not have the financial means to flee the area.
The suspect is described by police as Hispanic, 5 feet 7 inches tall and about 180 pounds. He is between the ages of 40 and 50, has black hair, a scruffy beard and dark eyes. He was seen wearing a dirty white T-shirt and black pants.
