Man charged in death of woman, 76
A man with a lengthy criminal record has been charged in a Kingman, Ariz., homicide.
The suspect has been identified as 49-year-old Michael Edwin Dobson.
Dobson is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Ruby Nell Caldwell, 76. Her son found his mother's body on the floor of her home in the 3600 block of Bluebird Lane on Tuesday.
The Mohave County sheriff's office said Caldwell suffered several stab wounds about her arms and neck.
Authorities discovered that Caldwell's 2006 Chevy Aveo was missing.
Sheriff's office spokeswoman Sandy Edwards said Dobson was driving the victim's vehicle and was arrested after a short pursuit at the Kingman airport Wednesday morning. Subsequent investigation led to Friday's filing of murder, theft of means of transportation and resisting arrest charges.
Edwards said Dobson was arrested for a sex offense in San Diego County, Calif., in 1984 and served 13 years on a 25-year sentence before he was released. She said he returned to prison in California in 2002 for burglary and drug convictions and was released again in 2009.
