Man convicted in murder of former wife in Reno motel

RENO — A 57-year-old man has been found guilty of first-degree murder in the strangulation of his former wife in a downtown Reno motel.

A Washoe County District Court jury on Thursday convicted Steve Anthony in the March 2011 death of Christina Crowley.

Anthony faces life in prison without parole when he’s sentenced May 31.

Prosecutors say Anthony told three people that he had wanted to kill Crowley, and he lured her to his Desert Inn room with the promise of food.

Anthony claimed his actions during a struggle were in self-defense because she punched him for trying to kiss her.

The couple divorced in 2010 after two years of marriage.
