Guard group honors Las Vegas lawyer

The National Guard Association of the United States presented Las Vegas lawyer Joe Brown with the Patrick Henry Award at its national conference Monday in Nashville, Tenn.

Brown, a Marine veteran and an attorney with Fennemore Craig, is vice chairman of the Nevada Military Support Alliance and an honorary commander at Nellis Air Force Base.

The Patrick Henry Award recognizes civic leaders who distinguish themselves with exceptional service to the National Guard and U.S. armed forces.

The Nevada Military Support Alliance evolved from the Nevada Patriot Fund that Brown spearheaded.

"The idea was to take care of Nevadans who were killed in Afghanistan and Iraq. But as the days went by, we not only had Nevadans killed there, but we had Nevadans coming home with no arms and no legs and serious injuries, and our charter under the Nevada Patriot Fund was not broad enough to take care of them," Brown said during a Fisher House groundbreaking for wounded warriors in March.
