Montana man imprisoned for killing teacher in I-80 crash

LOVELOCK - A 47-year-old Montana man will have to spend at least eight years in prison for the hit-and-run accident that killed a longtime teacher at Pershing County High School in December.

David Lillie of West Yellowstone was sentenced in Churchill County District Court Tuesday to eight to 20 years and ordered to pay nearly $3,000 in fines for the death of 56-year-old Mary Ryan of Lovelock.

Investigators say Lillie was under the influence of drugs when he caused the crash on Interstate 80 about 30 miles east of Fernley.

Trooper Chuck Allen says both drivers were traveling east when Lillie's Ford Windstar clipped the rear of the Ryan's Toyota Tercel, sending her car rolling into the median. He says Lillie tried to flee the scene, but was arrested a half-mile away.
