N.Y. dean to run Nevada health profession programs
The Board of Regents tapped Dr. Maurizio Trevisan, an internationally known physician and epidemiologist, to head its ambitious University of Nevada Health Sciences System on Thursday.
Trevisan, dean of the School of Public Health and Health Professions at the State University of New York at Buffalo, will coordinate a massive integration of health professional programs at the state's eight colleges and universities.
The effort, aimed at improving the overall health of Nevadans, will coordinate more than 150 programs in nursing, medicine and other fields with local organizations such as the Nevada Cancer Institute and the Lou Ruvo Brain Institute.
Trevisan, who received his medical degree at the University of Naples in Italy, comes with an extensive background in research, having authored more than 235 articles in top publications such as the New England Journal of Medicine. He also serves as director of the Health in Housing Center at SUNY Buffalo, part of the World Health Organization Collaborating Center program.
Trevisan succeeds former Clark County Manger Thom Reilly who briefly assumed the top Health Sciences System job before leaving for a job with Harrah's Entertainment last year.
Trevisan is expected to assume the post Oct. 1. He will receive an annual salary of $415,000.
