An Arizona man is accused of decapitating his wife, mutilating and killing their two dogs, cutting off his own arm and gouging out one of his eyes, police said.
A man called Phoenix police on Saturday morning about a “cutting” incident, NBC News reported. In a press release, police said when they arrived, they found the man with “a severed left forearm, cuts on his chest, and (he) appeared to be missing his right eye.”
Sgt. Trent Crump, a police spokesman, said it was an “absolutely horrific scene.”
“They could also see large amounts of blood on the floors, cabinets and walls of the apartment,” the release said. Two small dogs were found “badly mutilated.”
The man, 44, told police at the scene he also killed three family members, but police did not find additional bodies. He has not been identified by police. The deceased woman was identified by police as Trina Heisch, 49, according to AZ Central.
Police said the couple met and married at a mental health facility. The suspect has a history of domestic violence, drug use and mental illness, police said. He was still in the hospital Sunday evening.
