NEON THIS WEEK
The Legendary Shack Shackers
He publishes comic books, and in many ways, Colonel J.D. Wilkes seems to have sprung from the pages of one: the wild-eyed frontman for The Legendary Shack Shakers is an animated, hot-blooded live wire who lunges at crowds like a tattooed Rottweiler.
His band excavates the grimiest, most subterranean strains of Southern roots music, crashing dirty blues, Appalachian folk and gas guzzling rockabilly into a raucous din as flammable as moonshine.
See the band at 9 p.m. Thursday at the Beauty Bar, 517 Fremont St. Tickets are $10; call 598-1865.
