Officials can’t find cause of July downtown fire, explosion

The official causes of an explosion and a fire downtown last month have been ruled as undetermined, the Las Vegas Fire Department said Friday.

On July 11, an NV Energy substation on Main Street exploded and caught fire. The department said investigators could not determine the cause but that it was not deliberately set. The insurance company will investigate further.

Later the same day, the Opportunity Village Thrift Store on Main Street caught fire.

Investigators also could not determine the cause of that fire.

Investigators are still unsure whether a gas leak that day had anything to do with either fire. The investigations into the three incidents are closed.
