Pedestrian injured by driver on Fremont Street

A man later arrested for driving under the influence plowed a car through several steel pylons and into a pedestrian on Fremont Street this morning.

Las Vegas police said the man, 30-year-old Torrence Lewis of Las Vegas, was driving a 1991 Geo Prizm west on Fremont and failed to stop at the red light at Las Vegas Boulevard.

At 7:58 a.m., Lewis drove through the steel pylons protecting the Fremont Street Experience area and hit 62-year-old George Weddle of Las Vegas, according to police. The car continued west and rolled onto its roof.

Lewis then fled the scene on foot and was arrested by officers for felony driving under the influence and felony hit and run.

Weddle was taken to University Medical Center with critical injuries.
