Nevada’s new insurance commissioner named

CARSON CITY — Barbara Richardson, a state administrator in New Hampshire, was named Nevada insurance commissioner Friday.

Richardson is a permanent replacement for former Commissioner Scott Kipper, who resigned in July. Amy Parks, who has served as acting commissioner during the interim, will resume her position as the division's chief insurance counsel.

Richardson's appointment was announced by Bruce Breslow, director of the Nevada Department of Business and Industry. She will assume the job in March.

For the past 11 years, Richardson was director of operations and fraud for the New Hampshire Insurance Department. Her duties included overseeing units involved with the agency's budget, human resources, criminal investigations, licensing and tax collections.

Before that she was an adjunct professor at the University of New Hampshire School of Law and Franklin Pierce College.

Richardson holds a bachelor's degree in English literature from Vassar College and an MBA in finance from Loyola University.
