Prescription drug cost relief available through programs in Nevada

CARSON CITY - The state of Nevada wants low-income seniors and the disabled to know there are programs to help them with prescription drug costs.

The Nevada Senior Rx and Disability Rx program is accepting applications for assistance.

The programs are available to people age 18-61 with a verifiable disability; or age 62 or older.

They must have lived in Nevada continuously for a year and meet income limits of $26,836 for individuals or $35,773 for couples.

For people on Medicare, the program helps with monthly Part D premiums and prescriptions during coverage gaps. People who aren't on Medicare can receive generic drugs for a $10 co-pay and name brand prescriptions for $25.

The programs are funded by the federal government and administered by the Nevada Division of Aging and Disability Services. For more information or an application, go to the department's website at http://dhhs.nv.gov/SeniorRx.htm.
