School Board’s town hall meeting on superintendent search draws few

Turnout was low Monday night at a town hall meeting to discuss the selection of a new Clark County School District superintendent.

The meeting, at Cimarron-Memorial High School, was called by the Clark County School Board to get the public's input about what qualities people would like to see in a new district leader. Superintendent Walt Rulffes is scheduled to step down in August.

But, including the media, three School Board members and district staffers, only 27 people were on hand when the meeting got under way at 5 p.m.

"We are here to listen," School Board President Terri Janison said.

She asked people to fill out questionnaires and encouraged people to visit the district's website to do the same.

Only five people spoke and the meeting was over within 15 minutes.

Later, Janison said the board was trying to conduct an open process. More town halls are scheduled, and board members also will visit other community meetings.
