Sex offender arrested in molestation case in Arizona

KINGMAN, Ariz. — A convicted sex offender broke into a home, kidnapped an 8-year-old girl and molested her outside the home early Thursday, according to police in Lake Havasu City, Ariz.

Police Sgt. Troy Stirling said Justin Laidlaw, 22, was later arrested in the incident.

He said Laidlaw removed a screen and entered the girl’s bedroom about 5 a.m.

The sleeping girl was groggy and didn’t realize what was going on until she had been taken outside through her bedroom window, he said.

The girl’s older sister heard a commotion and alerted their father.

Stirling said the suspect was fleeing on a bicycle as the father made it outside to discover his daughter had been molested.

Laidlaw spent 90 days in jail last fall after trying to grope two women who were exercising at a local park, police said.

Authorities said Laidlaw also previously served 2½ years in prison for sex offenses involving a 9-year-old child.

He was being held in the Mohave County Jail on charges of burglary, kidnapping and sexual assault.
