Slaying suspect back in LV

A suspect in a 1994 homicide was extradited to Southern Nevada on Thursday after he was arrested last week in Tennessee, North Las Vegas police said.

Police said Fernando Valenzuela, 33, was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on a murder charge. He's charged in the slaying of Tara Cleveland, a model and Miss Nevada USA runner-up. Police allege she was gunned down by Valenzuela and another teenage car thief who fled to Mexico to avoid prosecution.

Police in Whiteville, Tenn., stopped Valenzuela on June 11 and arrested him on three felony drug possession charges. When they processed him, they learned he was wanted in the North Las Vegas slaying.

The second suspect in Cleveland's slaying, Joseph Villezcas, was turned over by Mexican authorities in 2006 and was convicted of second-degree murder.
