Hope Solo says friends are supporting her through the fallout over her story that "Dancing With the Stars" tried to boot her off of the show behind the scenes, instead of letting viewers vote on her.
RadarOnline broke the story last week that the Olympic goalkeeper – in her book "Solo: A Memoir of Hope" – says a secret 2011 memo called for her and Maksim Chmerkovskiy to be eliminated by judges, circumventing the viewer-voting process.
Chmerkovskiy then argued with judges over the memo, which outlined "who would be ousted each week," and he sought to cause on-air drama, successfully keeping them in the competition, Hope wrote and Radar reported. ABC told the site it was looking at legal actions against Solo.
I caught up with Solo at Chateau nightclub. She was in a happy mood, partying with teammates and signing autographs. I asked whether she has talked to anyone at "Dancing" lately.
"I have spoken to a few people, absolutely. I have a good amount of support. I have the support that I need and that I want. At the end of the day, it’s about the circle I hang out with," she said.
I asked her why some people criticize her when she speaks her mind.
"People either like me, or they hate me," she said. "People take it to whole new heights. But that’s not what it’s about to me. It’s about having fun and speaking the truth. Everybody has different opinions."
She also played blackjack and honed her poker skills here, to warm up for a Bill Clinton charity Texas hold ’em tournament this weekend in Los Angeles. "I’m excited to meet him," she said.
DR. RUTH AND THE HORROR
"Hostel" director Eli Roth is using the allure of sex to promote his new Goretorium haunted house on the Strip. He says scary things make people go bump in the night.
"You are guaranteed to get groped by your date, not by the performers, at the Goretorium," Roth says.
I told him Dr. Ruth once advised couples to see horror movies rather than romances because horror movies get people’s adrenaline pumping, while rom-coms lead to unrealistic expectations.
"She’s right. If you go to a romantic comedy, your date is looking at Ryan Gosling and then looking at you going, ‘You ain’t Ryan Gosling,’ " Roth said.
"If you take them to a horror movie and they look at Freddy Krueger and look at you – you don’t look so bad."
WAKING UP IN VEGAS, VOMIT
Katy Perry is planning a Vegas divorce party with friends on Oct. 23, the two-year anniversary of her marriage to ex Russell Brand, according to London’s Sun newspaper, which reports she’s counting on Vegas to stave off divorce sadness and birthday blues. She turns 28 on Oct. 25.
Paris Hilton’s model beau, River Viiperi, 21, was arrested after being accused of punching a guy whose girlfriend was making out with Hilton, 31, at XS nightclub early Monday morning, TMZ reported. Hilton is denying the makeout session, as a Hilton insider told Radar her dude was protecting her from a couple invading her space. Police cited and released him. The other guy plans to press charges. XS is where Hilton partied the night of her coke bust in 2010.
Hilton’s XS incident came after she saw Justin Bieber not vomit onstage at the MGM on Sunday. He vomited Saturday during an Arizona concert, causing this obvious joke to happen: Justin Bieber finally listened to his own music.
It’s just a joke. I’m not a hater. Calm down.
