The seating arrangements for The Cosmopolitan’s New Year’s Eve dinner revealed some interesting matchups.
Some were all about power pairings, some made perfect sense, and others deliciously raised eyebrows.
Movie star Mark Wahlberg was at a table with “Gossip Girl” star Blake Lively.
Jeremy Piven of “Entourage” sat with castmate Emannuelle Chriqui and rocker Deryck Whibley.
Star chef Todd English arrived fashionably late and asked for the table of Colin Cowie, the legendary party planner who put together this massive opening-night soiree.
You couldn’t swing a veal chop without hitting Deutsche Bank executives, who took over the $3 billion Cosmo project.
Table 36 was notable for the pairing of a couple of gossip columnists, the New York Post’s former Page Six editor, Richard Johnson, and an eye-patched scribe from Las Vegas. That one made total sense: all the easier for security to keep an eye on the rumormongers.
Johnson, who left the Post after 25 years, has moved to Los Angeles to anchor gossip for what he described as a “newspaper for the iPod.”
“Same game, new address,” said Johnson, who chatted with Paul Schimmel, curator of the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art.
